Zhang Yimou’s ‘One Second’ Withdrew from Berlinale

It’s announced today on Chinese social media Weibo that Zhang Yimou’s latest film One Second won’t be screened at this year’s Berlin Film Festival due to technical issues. The film was previously selected into Berlinale’s competitions session and scheduled to premiere on February 25. Because of the cancellation of the screening, cast and crew members of the film will not attend the festival. In addition to One Second, another Chinese film Better Days also withdrew from the Berlin Festival because the film’s post-production was not completed in time, according to a statement from the film’s director Derek Tsang. IMAX Earned $32 M During Chinese New Year Holiday 

IMAX announced today that the company earned 217 million yuan ($32 million) during this year’s Chinese new year holiday between February 5 and February 10, up 40% compared to the same period last year. The number of audiences went up by 16% year-over-year. The $32 million was generated by three local films The Wandering Earth, Crazy Alien, and Pegasus. Among them, The Wandering Earth made 185 million yuan ($27.25 million) in ticket sales, overtaking Mojin-The Lost Legend to become the highest-grossing IMAX film in China. Read more on Mtime

Shanghai International Film Festival to Pay Tribute to Greek Master Angelopoulos

The Shanghai International Film Festival has revealed the first batch of films in its 2019 lineup, which features 7 masterpieces of the renowned Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos, as part of its “Tribute to Film Masters” program. Selected films include Broadcast, Reconstruction, The Hunters, The Beekeeper, The Dust of Time, Landscape in the Mist, and the Trilogy: The Weeping Meadow. Master copies of the films, including 2K restorations and 35mm,  all comes from the Greek Film Centre. Proceeds from this program will be used in support of digital restoration of Angelopoulos’ movies. Read more on people.cn
