The megastar of Malayalam movie industry bagged the National Film Award of 1993 for the Best Actor for his performance in Vidheyan. Mammootty appeared as Bhaskara Pattelar in the movie, which was an out-and-out negative character. Mammootty later essayed some exceptional negative roles in Ranjith’s Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Kadha, in which he played triple roles and cinematographer-director Venu’s Munnariyppu.

As we all know, Mohanlal made his debut in mainstream cinema by playing the lead antagonist in Manjil Virinja Pookkal. The movie, which was directed by senior film-maker Fazil, had featured Shankar and Poornima Jayaram as the protagonists. Mohanlal later played a negative role in the 1984 movie Uyarangalil. He had earlier played a baddie in his Tamil debut venture Kanaa Kanden. The actor later played negative roles in the Vasanthabalan movie Kaviya Thalaivan and Bollywood flick Naam Shabana.

Kunchacko Boban later went on to essay a grey-shaded roles in Vysakh’s Seniors and Roshan Andrews’s How Old Are You. He has also played the main antagonist in Lal Jose’s Dileep movie Spanish Masala and spoof comedy Chirakodinja Kinavukal.

He essayed some great negative character in popular movies Classmates, Arabikkatha, Kangaroo, Gulumaal, etc. But the character Angoor Ravuthar from Amal Neerad’s Fahadh Faasil movie Iyobinte Pusthakam remains his best negative role till date.

Fahadh Faasil’s character Arjun from his comeback movie Chappakurishu had negative shades. The charming actor made his debut with the Shyamaprasad movie Ritu, in which he played a character which had grey-shades. He later appeared in a negative role in the multi-starrer, Apoorvaragam. Asif Ali later went on to play his first role as the main antagonist, in the 2012-released blockbuster movie, Ordinary.

Tovino Thomas, the current heartthrob of Mollywood has also played negative roles in a few films. He appeared as the antagonist in the Dulquer Salmaan starring 2013 movie ABCD and Unni Mukundan movie Style, which hit the theatres in 2016. The young actor recently made his official Tamil debut, by playing the main antagonist in the Dhanush starrer Maari 2.
