India’s most sought-after artists arrive in Dubai
Dubai is always a pass-through point for celebrities from around the world and this Friday sees not one, but two of India’s most sought-after artists take the stage. And there’s a Bollywood play to end all plays that is taking over Dubai Opera this weekend only. Soulful sonnets and poignant lyrics – each of these acts have nailed the love genre. The only dilemma: which one to watch?
These last few years have been some of the best for Arijit Singh. The 31-year-old singer came out of left field and stole the show in just about every Bollywood blockbuster, churning out undeniable hits from romantic ballads to dance jingles. He has given established young love icons like Atif Aslam and Shaan a run for their money and his star is far from done rising. If you’re a fan of Bollywood soundtracks, it’s next to impossible that one of Arijit’s tunes isn’t on your favourite playlist, so be sure to catch him live this Friday at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
Arijit Singh might be the reigning prince of new age melodies, but Rahat Fateh Ali Khan takes the title for master of classical music. He sings a style of song called ‘ghazal’ – a form of reverential poetry originating from Arabian traditions. Considering his uncle was the renowned Sufi Qawwali Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat knows a thing or two about intense balladry. He’s famous for tunes like ‘Mere Rashke Qamar’ and ‘Aaj Din Chadheya’ that were featured in popular Bollywood films. Catch him in action on 11 January at Global Village from 9pm onwards. You won’t get a lot of chances to see the star for tickets as low as AED15 (your park entrance fee), so don’t miss out.

You can plan ahead for this one – you’ve got the whole weekend to catch Mughal-e-Azam at Dubai Opera. But before you get ahead of yourself, remember – it’s only this weekend.
Renowned playwright Feroz Abbas Khan fashioned this multi-award-winning production from K. Asif’s epic feature film Mughal-e-Azam (1960). It tells the ill-fated love story between the Mughal Prince Salim and beautiful court dancer, Anarkali. Through Bollywood-style choreography, impressive dialogues and glamorous costumes by celebrity designer Manish Malhotra, this play takes audiences on an emotional rollercoaster you’ll hope never ends.
