Poor old Snoke. Well, not so poor since he clearly loved his bling, but he certainly met an unfortunate and utterly unexpected sudden end just as fans were starting to really love him.
It was one of the major reasons why there was such a powerful backlash from certain sections of the fandom, angry with the new direction Disney and director Rian Johnson had talken the film, and so the entire franchise.
The issue of Snoke’s identity, just like Rey’s parentage, was allowed to build in the months before The Last Jedi hit screens and as a result there was a strong sensation the audience had been trolled when the rug was pulled.
Will JJ Abrams rectify this is in Episode 9? What will he reveal about Snoke?
As always take any leaks with a large dose of salt.
The leak says: “JJ Abrams will be answering lot of the burning questions fans had that were left unanswered (by The Last Jedi).
“Filming started on August 1 and there were a lot of script rewrites. Disney and JJ Abrams were trying to figure out a way to put Snoke’s identity into Episode 9 and apparently a lot of those questions will be answered. His identity will be thrown into Episode 9 and explained.
“There has been a lot of talk that Snoke would be directly involved. This lines up with the news that Andy Serkis cancelled his appearance at a recent event.”
Back in September Keystone Comic Con in Philadelphia issued a statement: “We’re sad to announce that Andy Serkis unfortunately needs to cancel his appearance at Keystone Comic Con due to a scheduling conflict.”
Corroborating reports insisted this was related to motion-capture work, something in which the British star specialises. Snoke is just one of his iconic creations, alongside Lord of the Rings’ Gollum and Planet of the Apes’ Caesar.
Since Serkis had already wrapped up his latest Netflix project, Mowgli, and had no other know commitments at the time, this must surely be linked to the fact that Star Wars Episode 9 was already filming in the UK.
The prevailing belief is that Snoke will return in Episode 9, but in some form of memory or flashback.
Some fans are clinging to the hope that his life-force was preserved in that mysterious black kyber crystal ring, while others believe he will be revealed to be Darths Sidious’ old master, Darth Plagueis.
With 12 months to go until the movie hit screens, prepare for the speculation, rumours and anticipation to grow all over again. Will Disney deliver what fans want?
