Making the most out of the festive holiday of Diwali, Yash Raj Films is releasing Thugs of Hindostan a day after the festival of lights. Starring Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh in lead roles, the adventure drama is expected to write new records for a Bollywood film. According to trade analyst Girish Johar, the Vijay Krishna Acharya directorial has the “fastest 50 on cards”.
“In all the languages, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, Thugs of Hindostan will earn Rs 50 crore on the day of its release. And, if the content of the film also turns out to be decent, it will reach the Rs 100 crore mark within 2-3 days,” said Johar.
He also insisted that the film’s comparison to Hollywood’s popular franchise Pirates of the Caribbean might affect the audience in the top ten cities but beyond that, in smaller towns, many people don’t know what is Pirates. So Thugs Of Hindostan would be new for them.
The YRF production is the solo release this week and this will definitely help it in raking more moolah. Johar said, “The factors that will work in favour of Thugs of Hindostan are, one, it is a big holiday release, secondly, it is releasing on the biggest window available for a Bollywood film as there are no other releases scheduled around it and third, the film boasts of big names like Aamir, Amitabh, Katrina and Yash Raj Films.”
Aamir has a loyal fan base and his fans expect nothing less than a blockbuster every time he comes out with a film. “Aamir never lets his fans down and has a positive track record. The actor is known for springing in surprises and him being a part of the film makes the chances of Thugs of Hindostan being a success at the ticket counters even higher,” suggested Johar.
Releasing in around 7000 screens, Thugs of Hindostan is set in 1795 and chronicles the story of thugs who are determined to get India out of the clutches of British Raj. It will be interesting to see if the film will surpass the day one collection of Sanju to become the top day one earner of 2018.
