There’s no denying the fact 2017 was a pretty good year for Vijay. The Kollywood heartthrob became the talk of the town for all the right reasons when Mersal opened to a rocking response at the box office and managed to click with the target audience. Directed by Atlee, it became a big hit at the box office despite facing some opposition from certain sections of the BJP for ridiculing GST. With 2017 in the past, Vijay is in the limelight because of his latest release Sarkar.
The AR Murugadoss directorial hit the screens on November 6, 2018 and collected nearly Rs 2.37 Crore at the Chennai box office on Day 1 itself. On Wednesday(November 7, 2018), it continued its dream run and remained unstoppable.
Day 2 Collections
As per the latest trade reports, Sarkar collected nearly Rs 2.32 Crore on Wednesday and remained the undisputed king of the Chennai box office. Its 2-day gross stands at Rs 4.69 Crore and this is quite an impressive figure.
Sarkar Exceeds Expectations
AR Murugadoss and Vijay’s previous two films Kaththi and Thuppakki were big hits and they received rave reviews from the critics. As such, the fans had high hopes from Sarkar. Judging by the latest box office figures, Sarkar has clicked with the target audience and lived up to these expectations.
Will The Controversies Help Sarkar?
Sarkar has managed to ruffle a few feathers because of the character played Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. The actress’ character is named Komalavalli. And, as this was the original name of Jayalalithaa, several people in the political fraternity are upset with Sarkar. Similarly, a minister has asked the makers of Sarkar to chop off a few controversial dialogues/scenes. The general feeling is that such controversies could add to the buzz surrounding Sarkar and help it rake in more money.
The Way Ahead…
Sarkar is likely to stay strong at the box office in the days to comes and remain the king of the BO for a long time to come. One can expect its first week collections to be nothing short of phenomenal. Enough said!
