Deadpool 2 hit screens this weekend, giving Avengers: Infinity War a run for its money.
Amongst the hotly anticipated cameos, Stan Lee was expected to make his customary MCU appearance in Deadpool 2.
But Deadpool fans are struggling to pick him out of the endless sea of shock cameos.
Was Stan Lee in Deadpool 2?
Yes, Stan Lee was sort of in Deadpool 2. But maybe not as many fans wanted him to be.
If you blinked, you might have missed Lee’s presence — as a giant mural.
The cameo happens as Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and his X-Force team jump out of a helicopter to parachute down onto a prison convey transporting Russell (Julian Dennison).
While the other X-Force members are swept away by the winds, Domino (Zazie Beetz) is able to stay on course.
As she flies through the sky, she zips past a huge painting of Stan Lee’s face, done in psychedelic colours.
Deadpool 2 isn’t the first time Lee has skipped an in-person cameo.
In the Netflix adaptation of Jessica Jones, Lee did not make a live cameo. Instead, his image appeared on a bus.
Stan Lee’s cameos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are the fodder for many fan theories.
His cameo in Guardian’s of the Galaxy 2 confirmed a wide-spread fan theory that Lee is, in fact, the same person, cropping up in Marvel movie after Marvel movie.
In Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Lee is seen telling the Watchers (an alien race who observe and compile all the knowledge of the universe) he was “a FedEx delivery man”, a reference to his cameo in Captain America.
Lee has appeared in Deadpool as a DJ at a strip club in the first movie.
In February he reported recently battling pneumonia, he may have skipped Deadpool 2 for health reasons.
Fans everywhere are surely hoping he’s feeling better now.
