Avengers 4: Is MANTIS the Celestial Madonna who saves the universe? Infinity War clues

Avengers Infinity War is packed with clues and hints for Avengers 4, as well as the eagerly-anticipated Caprtain Marvel.

Mantis may be one of the shyest characters in universe full of raging egos but she might have the biggest destiny of all.

Her fledgling flirtation with Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will seem positively traditional compared with the Celestial Madonna prohecy in her future.

One key scene in Avengers 3 sets up a mind-blowing future for the empath.

The idea of Mantis as a mother is already teased when she first meets Peter Parker who has seen one too many Alien movies and screams: “Whoa, whoa, whoa, please don’t put your eggs in me!”

But it is the hilarious scene on board the Guardians ship which sets up a massive Mantis link to the Cotati from the comics and also ties in with Captain Marvel.

As Thor lies unconscious on the table, Gamora says: “It’s like his muscles are made of Cotati metal fibers.”

It just so happens that Mantis lies at the heart of the greatest Cotati prohecy, which concerns nothing less than the fate of the entire universe.

The Marvel Wiki says: “A prophecy read that one day the perfect human female, who would be the Celestial Madonna, would have a union with the perfect male plant of the Cotati race, and from their union would spring the perfect child, who would be the Celestial Messiah; a being that was destined to change the universe.

“Once it was revealed that it was Mantis, she mated with the elder member of the Cotati contingent that had been left on Earth along with a group of the Kree-born Priests of Pama…

“Though this Cotati was a tree, this mating was made possible because he took the form of the Avenger known as the Swordsman, who had recently been killed saving her life in battle with Kang. Their baby was named Sequoia, after the noblest of Earth trees.”

Nothing seems strange after Groot, so mating with a tree to create the perfect saviour of the universe fits perfectly with the endlessly bold MCU twists.

That prophecy also ties in with the Kree who almost destroyed the Cotati race, with whom they shared their home planet, Hala. The Kree Priests of Pama were secret allies of the remaining Cotati and kept them hidden before seeding them throughout the universe while they waited for the prophecied Celestial Madonna.

The Kree will also feature heavily in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie.

Things just got even more interesting…
