We have introduced a lot of merchandise on the site this year. The majority of it was introduced by me. Therefore, it only seems fitting that I choose five of our merch articles from this year to represent the coolest of them all.
In no particular order, here’s the list:
Puella Magi Madoka Magica Rain Gear
©Magica Quartet/Aniplex・Madoka Movie Project Rebellion
There’s been tons of merchandise created for this parody of the magical girl genre, and sometimes, it’s been hard to tell if they’re anime-themed at all. These rain boots and umbrellas are not only fashionable, but fans that see them immediately know the origin of the items just by looking at them. Each item recreates the Madoka Magica character they’re themed after perfectly, with the boots looking almost exactly like their anime counterparts.

One Piece Super Long Figure ~Gum-Gum Pistol~
Easily one of the coolest figures we’ve seen all year, this figure of Luffy from One Piece throwing a long punch is certainly unique. Instead of focusing on the character’s face, Luffy’s arm is the main draw of this toy. We also introduced a sexy Hancock figure and a set of mini One Piece figures in this article. All items were released in crane game machines in Japan a few months ago.

Master Sword Foldable Umbrella
The Hylian Shield backpack was a close second, but nothing can beat the epicness of drawing the Master Sword (an umbrella) from its sheath (umbrella cover) and ward off the forces of evil (rain) couldn’t be denied.
While most goods used outside of the household try their best to hide their game/anime origins, this item has the perfect balance of geek and casual. The other items on this list—the heart container-shaped plates, the keychains, etc—are also a must-see for fans.

No-Face Soy Sauce Server
Studio Ghibli’s characters are household names now, so why wouldn’t they be turned into household appliances? This pourer lets the enemy-turned-ally No-Face serve fans of Spirited Away, with the spout appearing to be a jug being poured by the spirit.
The article this item originates from also has No-Face rice scoops and chopstick holders, among other items.

Shonen Jump Magazine Cushions
These cushions don’t just have classic Shonen Jump covers printed on the face–they also can be opened to show pages from famous chapters of the manga on the cover. The magazine pillow can be shut by fastening a button on the opening. It’s big enough to put your head on to sail you away to shonen manga dreams. Some of the manga turned into pillows include Gintama, One Piece, and Dragon Ball.
